What's Going On?

It’s been a while. Big things have been happening. In the whirlwind of it all, I’ve been writing a million different blogs in my head, without actually stopping to write them down before moving onto the next thing. In my many first drafts of this post I devolved into justifying my lack of writing, but that’s not what I’m here to do.
Instead, I’m going to share some life updates and lay out the accompanying blogs I want to write about them so I don’t lose track of these hopefully brilliant blogs and can stop worrying about not having posted in weeks.
Update 1: Ch-ch-ch-changes
Big news: I got a new job! I know, I’m surprised too. It came out of nowhere. See, I’ve always wanted to work in higher-ed, so I have never turned off the Indeed notifications for comms openings at Phila schools. I enjoy receiving hiring notifications for all our neighboring universities to help me maintain a feel for what’s out there. I wasn’t necessarily trying to make a move, but an opening came through the other day that piqued my interest. The application included a mandatory statement on what you’ve done in your career to promote diversity. Suddenly, this became a job I desperately wanted. As fate would have it, I just finished my first week. The job is amazing and it’s a huge growth opportunity for me. I feel incredibly blessed to be using my journalistic background to further the objectives of a University. I’m thrilled beyond words in my new post.
Deciding to leave the church was an incredibly hard decision because of how at home I came to feel there over the past year. IOU ( well myself really but we’ll say IOU) a blog about the hard decisions I had to make to take this new, grown-up opportunity. I also have a draft I started that I haven’t been able to work through all the feels of, of a piece titled “to MPC with love.”

I know what you’re probably thinking, because it’s the questions everyone has asked me as soon as they hear I have a new job. “What’s going to happen to Jax?!” Unfortunately, Jax also had to resign from his position as church mascot. He’s found a nice college student to supervise him for the time being, until his Dad works out a permanent replacement for me. The good news is that because Jax’s Dad is amazing, he’s making sure Jax and I still have plenty of visits. Jaxie is actually sitting beside me as I write this. He may not be in my stories everyday, but never fear, Jaxie and I have a bond that can never be broken. Still, it’s a big change for both of us, and I think it calls for another Jaxie appreciation post...
The amazing news is that because I'm now part of a university system, I get a winter break! Even more amazing- as a treat to their employees who have toughed out years of COVID, the University is giving everyone TWO ENTIRE WEEKS for winter break. In the luckiest turn of events ever, I get this time even though I’m a new employee.
Jax and I will be reuniting for winter break together, so there will be plenty of Insta stories to come.
Update 2: Vacation all I ever wanted
I took THE GREATEST vacation to Miami with my bestie since kindergarten. A few awesome blog ideas came from this trip: Nay Nay appreciation post, the case for a girls’ trip and, on a heavier subject: a look at body dysmorphic disorder.
Update 3: Yoga Diaries
Another plan I have for my two-week staycation is to restart my Yoga Teacher training and get back on the path to my YTT Certification! If you haven't seen my new blog about my yoga journey so far, please check it out!
Update 4: 2021 is coming to a close!
Finally, I can’t believe this year is almost over. 2021 has been extraordinarily good to me and I plan to celebrate that with a few fun year in review posts. I still have my “2021 is my bitch” list and am looking forward to celebrating the year I did a few things that I’ve always wanted to do.
Starting up this blog, for example.
